Walk or Ride?
Students qualify for free bus transportation depending on their address. Students qualify for free bus transportation if they live more than 0.50 miles from school and/or live on the opposite side of Terry Parkway from the school. Students do not qualify for free bus transportation if they live within 0.50 miles of school and/or live on the school side of Terry Parkway. Using your address, you can find out if your child qualifies for free bus transportation by using the Jefferson Parish School/Transportation tool.
If your child qualifies for free bus transportation…
The school will provide the bus driver with a bus gain form that tells the bus driver that your child qualifies for free bus transportation. The bus driver will contact your family with information regarding the location of the bus stop and the approximate pick up/drop off time.
If you have any questions or would like to contact the Transportation Department directly, you can call them at (504) 349 – 7720 or (504) 349 – 7987 or find their information on their page on the district website.
If your child does not qualify for free bus transportation…
Students who live within 0.50 miles of school and/or live on the school side of Terry Parkway can either walk to school or get dropped off in the carpool line.
General Arrival Procedures…
All students must enter the school through the doors by the cafeteria. Walking students and bicycle riders must enter through the driveway entrance by the school marquee. Bicycle riders must lock their bicycles at the designated bicycle rack. Car-riding students must be dropped off in the carpool loop by the cafeteria. Students may not exit cars on East Forest Lawn Drive or in the parking lot. All students entering campus after 8:40 a.m. must report to the office to obtain a tardy slip.
General Dismissal Procedures…
East Forest Lawn Drive is a one-way street from 3:00 – 3:45 p.m.
All car-rider students must register in the office for a carpool number. This number must be visibly placed on your dashboard. The carpool line will line up in the far right lane of East Forest Lawn Drive to allow for buses and non-school traffic to pass on the left. Carpool cars must obey local traffic laws and not block any driveways or streets. All cars must enter the school through the driveway by the marquee and exit by the driveway closest to Daniels Road. For the safety of all students, students cannot be picked up from the car-riders line by anyone on foot. All car-riders must fill out an After Care registration form. Registration payment of $25 is not expected until the first time the student is picked up after 3:45p.m. If registration payment cannot be made at that time, the payment will be considered a debt to be paid as soon as possible. This debt will follow all other debt policies.
Walkers will be dismissed at 3:25 p.m. Parents can wait for walkers in the driveway by the marquee. For the safety of all students, walkers must leave campus immediately after being dismissed. All walkers must remain on the sidewalk left or right until properly crossed by a crossing guard or school employee.
Bus-riders will load in the bus lane by the cafeteria. For district-wide bus-rider policies, please refer to the School Bus Conduct Section from the JPPSS Procedures and Policies for Parents and Students.
* Note: Any changes to your student’s normal dismissal routine must be made in writing or by phone to the office before 3:00 p.m.
